VI Peels - The Peel for Everyone

Chemical peels have been around for decades, however effective peels were notoriously hard to control and painful. VI Peels have solved both those problems. They can be used on ALL skin types.

VI Peels address the following problems:

  • Anti-aging.

  • Reducing fine lines and deep wrinkles

  • Hyperpigmentation due to melasma or past inflammation

  • Acne

  • Acne scarring

A VI Peel session lasts 30 minutes. No numbing is necessary as the procedure virtually pain-free. While one session may provide significant benefit, typically three monthly sessions are recommend. However, deep scarring like acne scars or intense melasma will typically take five to six sessions for optimum results. Clients are sent home with a simple post-treatment kit and by day seven the peeling process is complete.

We use the SkinPen for microneedling. Dr Edman thoroughly researched the microneedling devices available and chose the SkinPen for its advanced safety features, clinical efficacy, and its pending FDA approval. No other microneedling devices are FDA-approved and soon the SkinPen will be the first.

Microneedling addresses the following problems:

  • Reducing scars (including hypertrophic scars) caused by acne, surgery or thermal burns

  • Fading stretch marks

  • Reducing fine lines and deep wrinkles

  • Dyspigmentation e.g in melasma

  • Tightening sagging skin.

A typical microneedling session lasts 30-60 minutes. The body area is numbed with a topical anesthetic making the procedure virtually pain-free. While one session may provide significant benefit, typical 3-6 sessions are needed for optimum results. Deep scarring like acne scars will typically take 5-6 sessions for optimum results. There is little downtime, though one should not plan on events where treatment area will be visible for at least a few days.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a proven way to help reduce wrinkles, age spots, acne scars, and other blemishes as well as tighten skin and balance tone. For overall skin rejuvenation, it is THE BEST OPTION for most people looking for smooth, even skin with a youthful glow.

What you need to know:

  1. When you have laser resurfacing makes a difference.

Did you know that autumn through winter is considered “laser season”? Because laser-treated skin is hypersensitive to sun exposure for up to a year following some procedures, many cosmetic surgeons recommend undergoing laser resurfacing during fall or winter months, when daytime hours are shorter and you are spending most of your time indoors.

Regardless of what time of year you have your laser procedure, wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen daily and reapply as needed. This not only helps to keep your results looking their best, it also provides protection against skin cancer and helps prevent additional premature aging.

2. Treatment may hurt—or it may not - but everyone gets a numbing cream prior to treatment.

Patients and doctors commonly compare the sensation felt during laser treatments to a rubber band snapping against the skin. However, what laser resurfacing feels like depends on the laser, the depth and area of treatment, and an individual’s tolerance for pain.

We use an Erbium YAG ablative laser and adjust the power and cool your skin so that you are comfortable throughout the procedure. Following the procedure, some degree of tenderness in the treatment area can be expected. We will recommend safe ways to control discomfort after laser resurfacing when necessary.

3. You will get better results with Alastin Pre and Post Treatment products.

While you don’t necessarily have to purchase the Alastin products for pre and post treatment, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. Based on our experience, you will get better results and heal faster with the Alastin Invasive Skin Kit (currently runs about $320 - but a single kit will work for up to three Laser Resurfacing sessions).

4. Certain medications or conditions affect how the skin reacts to laser treatment.

Please give us your complete medical history and any medications or supplements you are taking. For instance, if you are prone to cold sores or fever blisters, laser treatments may induce breakouts. Acne medications that contain isotretinoin (i.e., Accutane) can lead to poor healing or scarring from laser resurfacing.

Common over-the-counter products like aspirin can increase the risk of post-procedure bleeding; other meds can lead to poor healing or scarring after laser treatments.

Diabetes and other chronic conditions can also impact safety and results with laser resurfacing. You should also quit smoking at least 2 weeks prior to and after laser treatments to avoid complications with healing and provide your body with the best chance for optimal results.

5. Plan on having multiple treatments.

While in some cases, a single laser treatment will take care of your skin issues, most often series of three treatments produces the most satisfying results. The treatments are typically done every two months.

6. You will need some downtime.

Laser resurfacing recovery time varies depending on the type of laser used as well as an individual’s health and healing rate.

Typically our laser resurfacing treatments require a 2 to 3 week healing process, depending on depth, before the new skin has healed completely and final results are evident.

This does not mean you have to stay at home for a month; it just means that your skin will be raw, red and scab over as it heals. You may not feel comfortable in certain social situations, and you will need to modify your activities to avoid situations where infection is possible (swimming, gym workouts, etc.).

Laser skin resurfacing is simply our best option for obtaining the skin you desire. Set up a free consult with Dr Edman today.
